A Chapel Hill company says it now has four such farms under construction in the area. Two are in Lenoir County and one each in Duplin and Wayne counties.

Strata Solar has just started a 6 megawatt solar farm, south of Grifton. Nearly all the posts are in the ground and they expect wiring and panels in place in 6 to 8 weeks.

That site covers around 35 acres of land will generate enough power for about 700 homes.

Strata says statewide it has nearly 125 megawatt in farms installed and this year it plans to build over 20 farms in the state as well as start a 100 megawatt project in Warsaw.

The company has nearly 150 construction workers on the four local projects. Cost of the farm outside of Grifton is between $12 and $15 million.
